Guys..This dish… wow just wow. I don’t know if you have ever heard of TVP (texturized vegetable protein), but trust me, it’s SUCH a good meat replacement!! It has a meaty texture and is FULL of protein!
The Kung Pao sauce is sweet, (quite) spicy and so delicious. My brother and dad always order this dish (Kung Pao Beef) when we order Chinese and I was the one who usually just drank the leftover sauce lol. ??
This recipe is suuuuch a good one! My brother did a taste-test and says it tastes just like the dish he orders a the Chinese. So we could say that this one is definitely a winner!? •

Ingredients (serves 2-3):
– 1 cup TVP (soak in boiling hot water for 10 minutes, then squeeze out all the water)
– 2 tsp corn starch
– 0.5 tsp Chinese 5 spice
– 1 tbsp olive oil (or other oil)
– 2 tbsp sesame oil
– 1,5 thumb sized piece of ginger, grated
– 4 cloves of garlic, minced
– 4 dried chilis
– 1 fresh red chili, finely sliced
– 1 onion, cut into eights – 2 red bell peppers, cut into strips
– 2,5 tbsp soy sauce
– 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
– 1 tbsp rice vinegar
– 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
– 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
– 3/4 tbsp vegan oyster sauce (vegetarian mushroom sauce)
– 1 tbsp coconut sugar
– 1/2 cup of roasted cashews
– Salt & pepper
– Rice to serve

Soak the TVP in hot water for 10 minutes and squeeze out all the water. Mix the TVP with the corn starch and the Chinese 5 spice. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan over medium-high heat and fry the TVP for 3-5 minutes on each side. Set it aside.
In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce: soy sauce, dark soy sauce, rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar, hoisin sauce, vegan oyster sauce and coconut sugar.
Heat the sesame oil in wok pan and add the garlic, ginger and the fresh red chili. Fry this for 2-3 minutes before adding the onion and the red bell peppers. Sauté this for another 3-4 minutes before adding the dried chilis. When the bell peppers and onion reach your desired textured (I like them a bit soft), add the sauce, salt and pepper (to taste). Stir regularly for 2-3 minutes before adding the TVP and the roasted cashews! Mix well for another 2-3 minutes and serve immediately with so
