Is there anything better than apple season? I love picking tart apples and making them into a pie or crumble. 🍏 There’s something so therapeutic about it, particularly as your kitchen fills with the smell of baking and spices. Baking therapy should really be a thing. ☺️

This Apple & Blackberry Crumble is so simple! If you don’t have blackberries, feel free to sub in another berry or leave out altogether – apple works just fine on its own. For a nut-free version, replace the ground almonds with sunflower seeds or more oats.

Ingredients
•3 cups blackberries
•6 tart medium-sized apples, peeled and chopped into 1-inch cubes
•2 tbsp maple syrup
•Small pinch of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg
•¾ cup ground almonds
•1 cup rolled oats
•2 tbsp coconut sugar
•½ tsp cinnamon
•¼ tsp cloves
•¼ cup coconut oil

Method
•Preheat oven to 150°C/300°F.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Filling
•In a saucepan gently heat blackberries – stirring – until broken down.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Strain mixture through sieve (with a small enough mesh that the seeds are removed from the mixture) into a bowl.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Press mixture through the sieve with a wooden spoon to ensure all juice gets through. Set aside. Discard the seedy pulp that’s left.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Heat apples in a saucepan with a lid, adding 1-2 tbsp of water to avoid sticking. Stir frequently, until apples disintegrate when touched.

•Remove from heat and stir in blackberry mixture, maple syrup and spices. Set aside.

Crumble
•Mix ground almonds, oats, coconut sugar and spices in a large bowl.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Rub coconut oil into mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To Assemble
•Spoon filling into oven-proof baking dish, and sprinkle crumble mixture on top.

•Bake for 20 mins, until top is lightly browned. Enjoy!
