Fresh Lemon Garlic Hummus Topped With Za’atar – Aka A Flav

Fresh lemon garlic hummus topped with za’atar – aka a flavor bomb in your mouth and the best summer dip out there 🙌🏻
I recently tried za’atar for the first time and immediately fell in love with this Middle Eastern spice mixture. Za’atar is often described as having earthy, herbal, and tangy flavors thanks to the combination of sumac, sesame seeds, dried herbs, and salt. After searching high and low for this spice, I finally found it at Whole Foods and I couldn’t be more excited to add it to all my dishes!
Ingredients:
1 (15-oz) can chickpeas
2-3 garlic cloves
1/3 cup tahini
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (plus extra for topping)
Zest and juice of one small lemon
3-4 tbsp cold water (as needed)
1/2 tsp cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp za’atar
Instructions:
1. Drain and rinse chickpeas. If desired, remove the skin for creamier hummus (but definitely not necessary!)
2. In a food processor, blend all of the ingredients except for the za’atar until smooth. Add 1-2 tbsp of extra water if the hummus is too thick
3. Taste and adjust seasonings to your liking
4. Serve with a drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle the za’atar on top. Best enjoyed with warm pita and veggies!
