@foodbymaria black bean meatballs in bbq sauce. And FYI the bbq sauce was just tinned tomatoes, onion, garlic, white vinegar, mustard, sugar, molasses (I didn’t have liquid smoke or vegan Worcester sauce) but It was still so easy, SO good on a sourdough baguette.

Store bought bbq sauce can contain upto 4 tsp sugar in just 2 tbs of sauce. And I put around half a cup of bbq sauce onto this sub… I’ve not done the math but according to heart.org you don’t want to be exceeding 6 tsp in a DAY ?
In this recipe for maybe 4 subs, there is just 4 tbs sugar (coconut sugar contains extra nutrients which you don’t find in refined sugar- iron, calcium, potassium, zinc. And molasses, the other sugar used in this recipe (I used organic blackstrap) contains vital nutrients like iron, b6, calcium, magnesium and selenium.

>> Ingredients are listed in order of weight high to low on labels so if sugar is listed in the first 3 ingredients I’d avoid it. I’d also note here that sugar often appears under different names (56 names of sugar out there ?), fructose, hfcs, sucrose, maltodextrin, glucose are just a few.
